Mechanical Engineering & Design

The mechanical components of every system, line, or individual machine are entirely designed in-house at HTS S.r.l., leveraging our highly qualified staff and an integrated network of connected services. Our mechanical designers develop and verify each project using CAD stations equipped with 3D modeling software, Finite Element Analysis (FEM) structural calculation tools, and metal plastic deformation simulation software.

Structured to meet any production requirement, HTS S.r.l. is capable of designing special machinery as well as feeding and handling systems for the forging and hot stamping sectors.

We can design and manufacture systems with PED certification, providing the technical file to Accredia certification bodies to obtain the official registration number. HTS S.r.l. provides turnkey systems for the primary descaling of slabs, blooms, and billets, through to the subsequent descaling stages along the rolling mill, for both flat and long products (rails, beams, and various profiles).

In hot rolling of steel, the quality of rolled metal surfaces depends to a large extent on effective descaling. To prevent surface defects, iron oxide layers are removed from the hot steel surface by high-pressure water jet spraying prior to the actual hot rolling process. The selection of the most appropriate descaling nozzles and their optimal arrangement within the process is therefore a key engineering parameter. At the same time, this enables significant energy savings to be achieved — offsetting rising energy costs or meeting ecological sustainability objectives.

In hydromechanical descaling processes, the jets are generated by dedicated nozzles mounted on spray headers within a so-called descaling box (or descaler unit), through which the product (slab, strip, billet, bloom, beam blank, etc.) is conveyed. Operating pressure ranges from 80 to 450 bar.

High-Pressure Water Descaler for Billets

Aluminium billets are semi-finished products intended for use in extrusion presses, where they are transformed into extruded profiles.

During steel reheating, iron reacts with atmospheric oxygen and iron oxide scale — commonly referred to as “mill scale” — forms on the billet surface, permanently compromising the appearance and mechanical properties of the steel.

In the production of high-quality hot-rolled products, removal of these surface contaminants is unavoidable.

In hot rolling mills, descalers remove mill scale using high-pressure water jets. A descaler consists of one or more spray headers fitted with recessed nozzles that direct the water jet transversely across the workpiece surface.
