PMI DAY 2018 – Ninth National Small and Medium Enterprises Day

The ninth National Small and Medium Enterprises Day took place in the Canavese area on November 14, 2018. This initiative was organized by Piccola Industria in collaboration with Confindustria Associations to introduce new generations to the world of business and its opportunities through guided tours of member SMEs.

Launched in 2010, the initiative aims to promote an environment favorable to entrepreneurship as part of a cultural process to legitimize the role of business and its commitment to economic growth and social well-being—one of Piccola Industria’s priority goals. Since the first edition, over 250,000 young people have participated in PMI DAY, which has seen growing success and appreciation.

The company experience offers students a chance to see production realities up close and to learn about the dedication and talent shared by entrepreneurs and their collaborators in creating products and services, as well as their achievements and future projects. For entrepreneurs, PMI DAY is a moment to share their commitment to spreading business culture across various themes.

As with the previous edition, this year’s main focus—thanks to ongoing collaboration with Confindustria’s Made-in Technical Group—is the fight against counterfeiting, an increasingly central topic in debates on economic growth and employment. The impact of this phenomenon is particularly significant in Italy, a country with a strong manufacturing vocation. All sectors are affected: luxury goods, consumer goods, high technology, machinery, and components. While health and safety consequences are most evident in food, toys, and pharmaceuticals, counterfeiting represents an overall “cost” to the entire national system, affecting the competitiveness of “Made in Italy,” public safety, Italy’s image, the labor market, and the ability to attract investment, in addition to lost tax revenue.

National SME Day is the main national event of the “Industriamoci” Project, which serves as the framework for numerous initiatives dedicated to business culture and new generations, organized and promoted locally and nationally by Association Small Industry Committees.

PMI DAY is part of the XVII edition of Corporate Culture Week and is included in the European SME Week events organized by the European Commission.
